LangVia Privacy Policy

LangVia helps users select text from webpages, receive language-learning explanations, and optionally save selected passages and explanations to their LangVia vault. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your choices.

1. Data we collect or process

When you use the LangVia extension or web app, we may collect or process:

  • ·Selected text you highlight on a webpage
  • ·Nearby webpage context included to generate a useful explanation
  • ·The source page URL and a source label for the page you selected text from
  • ·The explanation result returned for your selection
  • ·Saved items you explicitly choose to save to your LangVia vault, including the selected text, source information, and explanation
  • ·Basic account and session information such as your user ID, plan tier, and quota status
  • ·Product usage events such as text selected, explain clicked, explanation loaded, and save clicked
  • ·Local extension settings: your LangVia language preference and an anonymous local daily explain counter

2. How we use this data

  • ·Provide language-learning explanations for selected text
  • ·Save selected passages and explanations to your vault when you choose to save them
  • ·Sync your language preference across sessions
  • ·Manage your session state, plan tier, and daily quota
  • ·Improve reliability, debug issues, prevent abuse, and understand how the product is used

3. Local browser storage

The LangVia extension uses browser storage (chrome.storage.local) to save:

  • ·Your LangVia language preference
  • ·A local anonymous daily explain counter

The extension does not use browser storage to persist captured webpage text.

4. Backend processing

Selected text, nearby context, source URL, and related explanation data may be sent to LangVia servers at https://langvia.app to provide the extension's core explanation functionality.

If you save an item to your vault, the selected text, source information, and explanation are stored in your LangVia account on our servers.

5. Third-party AI providers

To generate explanations, LangVia may send selected text, nearby context, and source information to third-party AI providers. These providers process the data as needed to produce the explanation result and do not receive any additional personal information beyond what is necessary for this purpose.

The specific AI provider used may vary based on production configuration.

6. Data sharing and sale

  • ·We do not sell your data.
  • ·We do not use or transfer your data for purposes unrelated to LangVia's single purpose of providing language-learning explanations and vault storage.
  • ·We do not use or transfer your data to determine creditworthiness or for lending purposes.

7. Advertising

LangVia does not use selected webpage content or saved learning items for advertising or ad targeting.

8. Data retention and deletion

  • ·Saved vault items remain in your LangVia account until you delete them or request deletion.
  • ·Product usage logs may be retained for security, reliability, abuse prevention, and product improvement purposes.
